Stone paper is a composite of waste calcium carbonate obtained from marble and limestone quarries, combined with a non-toxic resin.

The stones are crushed into a fine calcium carbonate powder and then mixed with recycled non-toxic high-density polyethene (HDPE) to create small white pellets. In a 100% dry process that applies zero acids, bleach or water (as opposed to the vast amounts used in the manufacture of traditional wood pulp paper), the pellets are squeezed into a material that is similar to ordinary paper.

Stone paper collects no static charge, is photodegradable, water-resistant and difficult to tear. Since it is not made from wood fibres, it possesses a smoother surface to write on than most conventional paper products.
